I am almost 23 years old and I still live with my mom. If the fact that she still allows this and that I still want to live with her is any indication of how wonderful she is then my mom takes the cake.
My mom has a lot on her plate right now and always has. I don’t even know where to begin…
1. My grandma recently moved to Larksfield Place in Wichita from Chicago to be closer to her daughter. My mom originally thought this would be a blessing. It turns out that my grandma’s dimensia is becoming worse and worse. Despite this burden, my mom visits her nearly every day, taking care of things like her laundry, medicine, grocery shopping, and just keeping her company.
2. My mom is the Youth and Senior Program Director at Northrock Lanes. She works so hard at this job. There are plenty of times where she doesn’t get home until 7 or 8 p.m. She is so dedicated to making Northrock’s youth and senior leagues the best that she treats all of her bowlers like her own children. She really works to make a connection with everyone one of them and their parents.
3. Back when I was about 2 years old, she started a business called Mommy’s Helper. She started this company because she found that there were so many things that she, as a mother, needed, but couldn’t find. She took the initiative to help create these solutions that she knew would make other mother’s lives easier. She isn’t officially apart of the business today, my dad runs it now, but she still contributes ideas because the business is something that will be with her forever.
4. She has gone through 2 back surgeries and 1 hip replacement all by the age of…oh wait, she’ll kill me if I give away her age! Nevertheless, she struggled through the pain before these surgeries and then she and my step-dad struggled through the financial pain. These types of things only brought us all closer as a family. She was always so strong and positive that we just couldn’t do anything but respect her for everything she’s gone through.
5. She still puts up with her 23 year old daughter living with her. Now, I don’t think I’m that awful to put up with, but I know I’m not easy. We’ve learned to pick our battles about clean rooms and such, but that’s not important when looking at the relationship we have. Every Wednesday, my mom and I eat dinner at this Mexican place. We decided that we need to have time for us to talk at least once a week. Before this we took a pottery class together at City Arts. Just yesterday we went to the zoo together for the Members Only preview of the new grill.
These are just some of the examples of the lengths that my mom goes to to be a good person, a good friend, a good mom, and a contributor to society.
I hope that I have expressed myself enough here, but I really think that there is just so much to tell. I love my mom very much, but she certainly doesn’t get the recognition that she deserves! Please help me do that!
